Gorgeous day in Foster today. It gets pretty hot inside the studio, so I'm working outside. We smashed the shop window a year ago, so I saved all the pieces. Here I have added glue and and are pushing the pieces into a mold. I am doing a section at a time and waiting for it to dry, so it can support the next lot. I am not sure if it will stay on the higher side once it gets hot as the pieces are quite large approx 2mm long. I have made a shallow bowl, but these sides are quite steep. But we wont know until I do it. It is sort of pate de verre technique with recycled glass instead of frit
It takes about 15-20 mins for the glass in the bowls to harden, so while I was waiting I made a large mobile with the glass crosses I made for xmas. The crosses are heavy, so the movement in the wind is lovely and slow. Another thing to remember when making the next ones. I used fencing wire, which is thin but strong and its is a hard to bend, the arm muscles will be sore tomorrow. Once it cools down tonight I will fire the bowls to 800-810 degrees C and we will find out what happens
Well they didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. They devitrified and have a lot of grey in them. So I think I will paint them and see what happens then.
